An Emergency Communications Specialist was fired from the Orlando Police Department on Thursday.
On April 2nd, an internal investigation was initiated by the Orlando Police Department, as it related to the handling of a call by Alan F. Ballard, Emergency Communications specialist.
After a thorough investigation by Internal Affairs, it was revealed that Ballard had improperly handled a homicide incident on January 27th 2009. According to the investigation, Ballard had failed to uphold the Obedience to Policies and Procedures and other Written Directives, specifically the Orlando Police Department Communications Desk Standard Operating Procedure.
In his termination letter from Deputy Chief Gene Bernal, Special Services Bureau Commander, dated August 27th 2009, it was stated that, Ballard failed to notify his supervisor and his conduct “threatened public safety, health and the City’s service to the public.”
