A motorcyclist was killed on State Road 436 in Orange County on Wednesday night, after colliding with a curb, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said, a 27-year-old male motorcyclist, of Gainesville, was heading northbound on SR 436 in the right through lane around 11:00 pm, when he collided with an outside curb near Raiders Run.

The motorcyclist drove up on the curb for approximately 30 feet before losing control.

Troopers said, the motorcycle then crossed over the grass path then onto the sidewalk. The motorcycle then collided with a concrete wall that runs parallel with the sidewalk, before striking a wooden utility pole.

The driver of the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the Winter Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers have not released the name of the motorcyclist, pending notification of next of kin.

  1. I pulled up on this accident right after it happened. I got out of my vehicle to see if I could help this person. For Family that might read this; I held his wrist to take his pulse, then went to his head and told him it was gonna be okay. His eyes shot open, as if he heard me–not sure if he did. There was nothing that could’ve been done before the ambulance got there—wanted to comfort him, if he heard me, and stayed by his head until 3 RNs and a Respiratory therapist pulled around in a passing car and started to assess him just before the police/paramedics arrived. His helmet had come off during the accident at some point, as it wasn’t on his head when I approached him–and no one else had gone near him; the witnesses driving behind him said they saw it fly off during the accident. This whole time was probably five minutes. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

  2. We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts. Jimmy was our sweet, sweet boy! We are so glad to know that he wasn’t alone. We would be so appreciative if the person who commented above who was with him could email us at [email protected]. We thank you, thank you for your kindness. To the RN’s and Therapist and to the hospital and police who tried to help him- thank you! You can’t know how much comfort knowing this brings us. Christie
