Man Arrested for Murder following Fatal Central Florida Shooting

A man was recently arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal shooting in Central Florida.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect and victim began arguing in the breezeway of an apartment building on the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle in Brandon, near Tampa. During the argument, the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene.

The victim, 25-year-old Darien Lamont Henry, was later transported to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives learned a verbal altercation occurred between Henry and the suspect. During the argument, the suspect retrieved a firearm and shot Henry in the upper body.

Through investigative means, detectives positively identified the suspect as 32-year-old Delfeayo McCoy. Detectives located McCoy at a residence in the 4900 block of 80th Street South in Tampa hours after the shooting.

He was charged with 2nd Degree Murder with a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

“While this arrest will bring some measure of accountability, it cannot bring back the life that was lost. These senseless acts of violence must stop,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our detectives’ efforts to quickly locate and arrest this suspect demonstrate their commitment to justice and keeping our community safe.”

This is an ongoing investigation, according to local law enforcement.
