Lynx Bus Accident sends 12 to Hospital

A Lynx bus was involved in an accident on Tuesday afternoon after the driver of a Mazda going eastbound on West Colonial Drive, struck the back of the bus, Orlando Police officers said.  Twelve persons were taken to local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

According to OPD:

At 4:48 pm on Tuesday police responded to an accident in the 400 block of West Colonial Drive.

Based on their investigation, police learned that the driver of a beige Mazda protege was traveling eastbound behind a Lynx bus which had stopped at a bus stop in the 400 block on west Colonial Drive.  The driver of the beige Mazda protege, a 24-year-old female, failed to stop and struck the back of the Lynx bus.

The driver of the Mazda was taken to local hospital with a complaint of an ankle injury.

There were 25 passengers on the bus and twelve were taken to local hospitals–Florida East, Florida South and Orlando Regional Medical Center– with non-life threatening injuries. One of the passengers complained of experiencing chest pains.

The driver of the Lynx bus, a 49-year-old male, was not injured.

According to police, the preliminary investigation suggests the driver of the vehicle is at fault and will be cited.   Police have not released the name of the bus driver nor the female driver of the  Mazda.

The investigation is still on going.
