Kilograms of MDMA, More Narcotics Recovered after I-4 Disabled Vehicle Incident

An interesting night on I-4 in Central Florida led to the recovery of about four kilograms of MDMA and other drugs after a disabled vehicle incident.

Deputies were called to the side of westbound I-4 (107 mile marker) for a disabled vehicle. It was reported the passenger, 30-year-old Carey Thomas Crownover of DeLand, was inside kicking the windshield and more.

When Deputy Graham made contact, Crownover kicked him and began struggling as the deputy worked to take him into custody safely, which was ultimately successful, according to local law enforcement.

In the vehicle, Volusia County deputies found 1,426 grams MDMA, 1,016 grams amphetamine, 4 grams ketamine along with cannabis.

During a follow-up search warrant at Crownover’s home in DeLand, detectives recovered more trafficking amounts of drugs, including: 2,516 grams MDMA, 363 grams cocaine, 1,000 grams psilocybin, 510 grams amphetamine, along with alprazolam, 2C, LSD, and cannabis.

Detectives also seized 11 firearms, one of which was reported stolen in Lake County.

Crownover was charged with armed trafficking in MDMA, amphetamines, and cocaine, possession of psilocybin, LSD and cannabis with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Crownover’s father, who also lives at the same residence, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Additional charges are possible pending further investigation, according to local law enforcement.

“Great job by patrol, VBI, the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force and the Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team on this case,” the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said.
