Inmates are denied in-person visitation at a Florida correctional facility.
According to reports, the Florida correctional facility, which has a holding capacity of 327 inmates, is trying to stop illegal drugs and contraband.
“The facility does not allow in-person visitation. Every inmate is afforded one free video visit and two free phone calls per week except for if placed some type of restriction,” states the Jackson County site.
The facility apparently has tablets for inmates to use. Books, games, movies, and music can be purchased by the inmate from tablets, and over 300 versions of bibles from all religions and other religious materials are available free from the tablets.
Inmates at this correctional facility are only allowed certain items to be dropped off to them: one pair of work boots (no steel toe) for trustees only and approved through a request, and one pair of eye glasses. According to Jackson County, these items will only be accepted after the inmate fills out a request and it is approved by the Operations Captain or his or her designee.
The chief of corrections at this Florida facility has said that fentanyl and meth are among the drugs being smuggled to inmates. It is a difficult situation to fight and apparently information usually comes from other inmates about what is going on.
The Jackson County Correctional Facility is located in Marianna in North Florida. The Correctional Facility has a staff of approximately 43 full-time certified correctional officers.
