Hurricane Bill Upgraded to Category Four

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in their latest advisory has said that Bill is now a category four hurricane.

Bill, which appears to be heading away from the Florida coast, is a large hurricane with hurricane force winds extending outward up to 80 miles to 130 Km from the center.  Some additional strengthening of bill is possible during the next 24 hours.

At 11:00 a.m.  AST, according to the National Hurricane Center, the eye of Hurricane Bill was located near latitude 18.7 North, longitude 56.3 West or about 380 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands, and about 1080 miles south-southeast of Bermuda.

Bill is moving toward the west-northwest near near 18 mph. This general track is expected to continue today and Thursday. Thereafter, Bill is expected to gradually turn northwest and northward.

Large swells are associated with Bill and those could begin impacting the islands of the Northeast Caribbean Sea in the next day or two.  As well, large swells should also begin to affect Bermuda and portions of the Eastern Coast of the United States, Friday and Saturday.
