Chief John Tegg won another straw poll on Monday at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Candidate Hobnob. Chief Tegg defeated his closest rival by just over 19 percentage points. The voting breakdown was as follows: Malone Stewart received 17 votes or 6.3%. Bill Armstrong received 19 votes or 6.9%. Jerry Demings received 92 votes or 33.8%. John Tegg received 144 votes or 52.9%.
“Congratulations to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on another successful election year hobnob,” said Tegg. “It was a very politically diverse crowd at this event which makes our straw poll victory all the more meaningful. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents are joining our cause and getting involved with the campaign. Crime is not a partisan issue, it’s a leadership issue. I think we proved that tonight and I’m thankful for everyone’s support.”
Chief Tegg not only won the straw poll, but in a four man race with 109 years of law enforcement experience between the four candidates, Chief Tegg walked away with a plurality having received 52.9% of the total vote.
“I think receiving a plurality of the vote in a four man race is very significant”, said Tegg. “Every candidate in this race has a tremendous amount of experience in law enforcement. A plurality result under those circumstances speaks volumes about the strength and effectiveness of my candidacy
