The attorney for Zenaida Gonzalez who is suing Casey Anthony for defamation, after she claimed a nanny by that name kidnapped her daughter, Caylee, filed an emergency motion on Wednesday to compel Anthony to be deposed. A hearing had been set for Friday, July 15, at 10:00 a.m., before Judge Jose Rodriguez.
John Morgan, Gonzalez’s attorney, is concerned that the deposition will not take place as he believes Casey will leave the jurisdiction once she is released from the Orange County Jail on July 17.
On July 5, after the jury handed down the not guilty verdicts, Morgan served Casey in jail with documents to appear at a deposition next Tuesday, July 19 at his law offices. Her attorney in this civil case, Charles Greene also was served notice of the hearing and deposition.
But now Morgan is worried Casey might leave Orange County.
“It has been widely reported in the news media that she (Casey Anthony) will leave the jurisdiction following her release….” the emergency motion states. “It is requested that this Court compel the deposition of the Defendant Casey Anthony, either as scheduled on July 19, 2001 or in the alternative prior to her release from jail.”
There are news reports that there will be an emergency case management hearing in the civil case against Casey tomorrow, Friday at 8:00 a.m.
