Free Voluntary Prekindergarten, Register now

If your child was born between September 2, 2004 and September 1, 2005 and is entering kindergarten this fall, he or she may be eligible for our free summer Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program. Four schools will offer VPK as long as classes are filled. They are Millennia, Waterford, Whispering Oak, and Dream Lake elementary schools. The program runs from June 14, 2010 through August 3, 2010. On June 14, hours are 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. From June 15 to August 3, hours are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. VPK is in session Monday through Friday.

A child is eligible for the summer program if he or she did not attend any VPK classes during this school year. To register, please go to the school of your choice. You will need to bring proof of birth such as a birth certificate and proof of residency such as a lease, mortgage, or tax exemption card.

VPK is taught by certified teachers. Your child benefits in a number of ways:

* The program prepares students for success in kindergarten by providing developmentally appropriate activities which lay the foundation for all future learning.

* Students are introduced to all subject areas through songs, finger plays, literacy activities, and play with a purpose.

* Students become familiar with school and class routines.

* Oral language experiences and vocabulary are provided that are essential pre-reading skills.

Register now at one of our four schools offering VPK. For more information please go to earlychildhood.ocps.net
