Florida TaxWatch: Taxpayers can save One Billion (Video)

Florida TaxWatch, in new report released Thursday said, taxpayers could save $1 billion next year, if a range of recommendations were implemented.

The report lists 25 ideas that could help Florida save a lot of cash, preserve the most important services and create a more efficient state government.

One of the recommendations is for the state of Florida to start collecting Internet sales taxes.

TaxWatch calls it a fairness issue, as well as a jobs issue, because businesses with buildings in Florida can’t compete with online giants who don’t charge sales taxes.

TaxWatch Cost savings Task Force Chairman John Alexander says collecting those taxes is easier than you think.

“Because in every IP address, that’s every computer in the world, there is a designator that says where you are and it designates computers ordering over the Internet that are located in the state of Florida.”

This is TaxWatch’s fifth cost savings report in as many years. In that time, the group says the recommendations have saved the state of Florida more than $3 billion.
