This weekend, Florida Rising will be celebrating Juneteenth all across the state, inviting the community to join and honor the holiday, including several in Central Florida.
There are planned Florida Rising events in Jacksonville, Eatonville, Kissimmee, Tampa, Broward, and Miami to gather, honor and celebrate Juneteenth, which the group calls “a momentous occasion in the ongoing fight for racial justice and equality.”
Florida Rising calls itself a people-powered organization made up of members advancing economic and racial justice across Florida. The group organizes on various political, social, and economic issues, saying they “organize multi-racial movements to win elections, change laws, and create a state where everyone can be safe, happy, healthy and whole.”

“Let us come together to listen, learn, and uplift the voices of those who have been marginalized for far too long,” Florida Rising stated. “Let us engage in meaningful dialogue, take concrete actions to address racial disparities, and create spaces that celebrate diversity and promote equity.”
Orlando State Senator Geraldine Thompson and Orlando State Representative LaVon Bracy Davis are hosting a Juneteenth event in Ocoee, and the City of Orlando is hosting an event at Clear Lake Park.
