Florida Democrats Issue Message of Worry on MLK Jr. Day, Inauguration Day

The Florida Democratic Party issued a statement of worry on MLK Jr. Day and the presidential inauguration day.

FDP Chair Nikki Fried did try to inspire some hope for Florida Democrats despite the major wins by President Donald Trump and Republicans.

“Today is not the day we hoped for,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “It’s not a day where we can celebrate the strength of our democracy or the victory of Dr. King’s dream — instead, it’s a day where we have to worry about what life will be for the next four years. No matter what Democrats are feeling today, Donald Trump can’t be allowed to break our spirits. Because in the words of Dr. King, ‘we must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.’”

The national Democratic Party also issued a political response to President Trump’s agenda. DNC Chair Jaime Harrison issued a statement on MLK Jr. Day stating: “Donald Trump and extreme MAGA Republicans are determined to roll back the Biden-Harris administration’s progress and implement their extreme Project 2025 agenda. We will fight back at every turn. Our colleagues in the Senate will hold Donald Trump’s nominees accountable as Democrats in the House and state legislatures continue advancing legislation that lowers costs, makes our communities safer, and secures reproductive freedoms.”

The Florida Democratic Party also attempted to remind voters about the Trump agenda:

“This morning, I am reminded that ‘the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice’ — and that it doesn’t bend on its own,” FDP Chair Nikki Fried continued. “While we prepare to defend ourselves from the extremism of the Trump Administration and their Project 2025 agenda, let us remember our responsibility to fight for a better tomorrow. Together, we can continue the fight for an equal and more affordable America, a strong representative democracy, and a truly more perfect union.”

Despite the attempt to be hopeful, the message missed the mark in taking accountability for election losses and how Democrats will court voters and start to win elections again.
