Florida Democratic Party Calls on Congressman Cory Mills to Resign or Be Expelled

The Florida Democratic Party called on Republican Congressman Cory Mills to resign or be expelled from Congress.

Following reports that a restraining order from Republican Committeewoman and Miss United States Lindsey Langston was issued against him, the Florida Democratic Party called for Congressman Cory Mills to resign immediately. Democrats said this is just the latest in a series of scandals, unethical behavior, and disturbing allegations that have no place in public office.

“Congressman Mills has shown us exactly who he is: a man who poses a danger to his intimate partners and who has repeatedly voted to take away Floridians’ healthcare,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “If he refuses to resign, Congress must expel him. Enough is enough.”

Democrats said this is not just about one man’s misconduct, it is about Republican accountability. “Time and again, the Florida GOP has looked the other way when their members abuse power, betray the public’s trust, or endanger the people they’re supposed to serve,” the Florida Democratic Party said.

Following reporting confirming that a Florida judge has issued a restraining order against Cory Mills finding “[Mills’s ex-girlfriend] is a victim of dating violence and/or [she] has reasonable cause to believe she is in imminent danger of becoming the victim of an act of dating violence,” DCCC spokesperson Madison Andrus released the following statement:

“This latest development in the Cory Mills saga is particularly distressing and horrific. A court has now found that Mills engaged in domestic violence, and continues to be a serious threat to his ex-girlfriend while sitting on two of the most consequential committees in the House. The people of Florida’s 7th Congressional District deserve better and will elect a real leader next November.”

Noah Widmann, a Democratic candidate for Florida’s 7th Congressional District, issued the following statement following the granting of the restraining order from Republican Committeewoman and Miss United States Lindsey Langston:

“I grew up in a home with domestic violence, so I know the fear and pain that comes with it. My mom stood up to protect me from abuse, and I applaud Ms. Langston for her courageous stand against a powerful Member of Congress. I’m disgusted by Cory Mills’ behavior. No one who behaves this way should hold a position of public trust. Cory Mills is not fit to serve, and Congress should immediately begin proceedings to expel him. Central Florida deserves honest leadership.”
