A Florida Democratic Congressman called Republican President Donald Trump a dictator following his recent comments during a meeting with the President of El Salvador.
Orlando Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost, a Democrat, released a statement slamming President Donald Trump after his remarks in the Oval Office alongside El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele.
According to the progressive Florida Democrat, both Trump and Bukele made it clear during the meeting they would not be working towards the release and safe return of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man and father who Democrats say was wrongly deported and is currently imprisoned in the South American country.
“Today, Donald Trump made two things clear: he thinks he and his Administration are above the law, and he does not give a damn if Americans get hurt as a result,” Democratic Representative Maxwell Frost said. “With the world watching, Trump refused to take accountability for his Administration’s failure in wrongfully deporting a Maryland father who had legal status in this country while simultaneously ignoring a Supreme Court order to bring him home to the U.S. —- all while imploring the president of a foreign country to build more prisons so he can throw more Americans in foreign jails.”
The Central Florida Democrat also criticized that President Trump also made additional threats to arrest and jail American citizens abroad, asking Bukele to build more prisons in El Salvador. He warned that “no one is safe.”
“This is government-funded kidnapping, plain and simple,” Rep. Frost said. “No one is safe in Trump’s America; let that sink in.”
Orlando Congressman Maxwell Frost serves on the Committee of Oversight and Government Reform and is co-chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee and Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
