Florida Defendant Convicted of Capital Sexual Battery on Minor

A Florida defendant was convicted of three counts of capital sexual battery after the minor victim testified against her rapist.




After two-day trial, a Putnam County jury found defendant Troy Armstrong guilty as charged of three counts of Sexual Battery on Person less than 12 years of age and three counts of Lewd/Lascivious Molestation on Person less than 12 years of age.

Immediately following the verdict, Armstrong was sentenced to life in prison.

“Our victim testified before the jury and in the presence of her rapist,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “She is brave and strong. It is my sincere hope that she will rise above the pain she endured at the hands of the defendant and live a long, happy and prosperous life.”

The case was investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorneys Deb Rothenberg and Alexander Gilewicz successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Alicia Washington presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
