FHP ID Gasoline Tanker Driver Killed in Inferno

Troopers have identified the driver of the gasoline tanker who was killed in a fiery crash on the Beachline, one week ago.

John L. Lynch, 42, of Lauderhill, Fl, died when his tanker burst into flames after a pick-up truck slammed into the right side, last Friday, January 21, on SR 528.

The crash caused the pick-up to burst into flames and roll over several times, before it flipped over the overpass, landing on North Courtenay Parkway or SR 3.

The tanker continued westbound going through the barrier wall, into the eastbound lanes of SR 528, before exploding in flames.

Lynch and the driver of the pick-up truck died in the inferno.

Troopers have not yet identified the driver of the pick-up truck.   Dental records were being used to determine the identity of the drivers.

The Merritt Island overpass sustained significant damage from the flames and is currently under repair.
