Police: New Tampa Mother Murdered Teenage Children

A New Tampa mother was arrested on Friday and charged with murdering her two teenage children.

Tampa Police say, Julie K. Schenecker, 50, of 16305 Royal Park Circle, confessed to shooting her two children, ages 16 and 13, to death.

Officers went to Schenecker’s home after receiving an out-of-state phone call from her mother around 7:39 a.m. on Friday, January 28.  Schnecker’s mother told police she was concerned, as she could not reach her daughter who she believed was depressed.

Police found the suspect’s 13-year-old son, Powers Beau Schenecker, shot to death in an SUV in the garage.  Schnecker’s 16-year-old daughter, Calyx Powers Schnecker, was found fatally wounded, in an upstairs bedroom.

Police say, after being read her Miranda rights, Schnecker confessed to killing her two children and described the crimes in detail.  According to news reports, Schnecker told police she shot her children because they were being “mouthy”.

Police say, the preliminary investigation indicates, the children were killed on Thursday evening.

Schnecker was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail and charged with two counts of first degree murder.

Schenecker, is married to Parker Schenecker, an Army colonel serving in Qatar.

The investigation continues.
