Dr. Phillips ESE Teacher Receives National Honor

The Council of Exceptional Children (CEC) has awarded Orange County Public Schools Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher, Dr. Hannah Ehrli, with the 2012 Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year Award. The award is regarded as the highest national honor for a teacher of students with exceptionalities. Dr. Ehrli has worked at OCPS for 10 years and is currently at Dr. Phillips High School working with autistic students.

The award recognizes special educators who have advanced the field and the quality of special education service. Each year, the award winners are CEC members whose contributions have moved the Council forward in significant ways. Council for Exceptional Children is an international community of professionals who are the voice and vision of special and gifted education.

The award acknowledges how Dr. Ehrli’s work reflects significant, documented educational success for students, how she continues professional development, and how she has the highest standards of educational quality.

As the 2012 CEC Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year Award recipient Dr. Ehrli will:
· be recognized at the CEC 2012 Convention & Expo in Denver, Colorado.
· be invited to present at the Teacher-to-Teacher Lesson Swap, a special convention educational session.
· represent CEC before members of Congress and the administration.
· represent CEC at the annual National Teacher Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
· receive a commemorative plaque.
· be profiled in TEACHING Exceptional Children and Exceptional Children.
