Disney, Unions reach tentative wage agreement

320px-Walt-disney-donald-duck-mickey-mouse-walt-disneyA tentative labor agreement has been reached between Walt Disney World and the largest union group that would see the minimum hourly wage increase from a little over $8 to $9 this year.

Announced Friday, the agreement will raise hourly wages to $9.50 next year and $10.00 beginning in 2016.

The Services Trade Council, a coalition of six unions representing just over 20,000 full-time workers, brokered the agreement with Disney on Thursday night, just before the current contract expired.

The agreement was supported by four of the six unions with the Teamsters and the International Alliance of Theatrical & Stage Employees voting against it.

As part of the proposed new agreement, Disney will freeze health care cost until 2015.

Union members will get to vote on the proposed new contract on August 1. If approved, it will remain in place for five and a half years.
