Democrat Josh Weil released his first TV ad ahead of the upcoming Florida congressional special election on April 1st. He is taking on a Trump-endorsed Republican as Democrats attempt to threaten the Republican majority in the U.S. House.
Weil is the Democratic nominee for Florida’s 6th Congressional District. He is running against Republican State Senator Randy Fine in the general election.
The ad highlights Democrat Josh Weil’s career as a public educator and role as a single father – and the fact he is “one bad ass candidate.” It also describes the Democratic candidate as a “patriot.”
The campaign ad also emphasizes Weil’s priorities of lowering costs for Florida families and protecting Social Security. Here’s a transcript from the campaign TV ad:
[VOICEOVER}: Josh Weil, one bad ass teacher. A career in our public schools teaching math and science. Josh Weil, single father, patriot, now a bad ass candidate for Congress.
[JOSH WEIL]: I’m Josh Weil. I’m not a career politician. I’m a math teacher and I know the numbers aren’t adding up for Florida families. I’ll work to lower the cost of groceries and always protect Social Security. I approve this message because it’s been too long since someone fought for you.
[VO]: Josh Weil, one bad ass candidate.
The positive ad is backed by a significant six-figure buy and is running across broadcast, cable, and digital channels, according to the Democrat.
This race is to replace former Republican Congressman Michael Waltz, who resigned to serve as President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor. The general election on April 1, 2025 will be seen as an early bellwether of Democratic enthusiasm in the new Trump administration.
Democrat Josh Weil is running for Congress in Florida’s Sixth Congressional District. Josh is a public educator and a single dad of two boys. He has worked in Orange County Public Schools at their Alternative Education Centers, and since 2018, with the School District of Osceola County as a secondary math and science teacher, an instructional coach, a dean of students, and an MTSS Coordinator. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Stony Brook University, a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Northwood University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Central Florida, and completed his post-grad work in Educational Leadership at Stetson University.
The Democratic congressional candidate explained that with Rep. Waltz’ resignation, the Republican House majority is currently 217-215, and would fall to 216-215 if Rep. Elise Stefanik is confirmed to serve as UN Ambassador. Trying to build more interest and attention, his campaign says a Weil victory would have significant implications for the U.S. House majority.
Josh Weil says he is a proud progressive, and he sits on the Executive Board of Progressives for Democracy in America’s Florida Chapter, a statewide organization dedicated to the cause of universal healthcare in the United States, and supporting candidates across Florida seeking to run for office at all levels of government, who are willing to openly support Medicare For All and refuse to accept corporate campaign contributions.
What is the purpose for cussing repeatedly in a campaign commercial…during prime time when children are watching. No way I’m voting for someone who can’t be decent in a tv ad
I agree with Teresa. This commercial made me feel like I was watching idiocracy.
Democrats need to wake up! Supreme Court ruling allows a president to act as a dictator. Is there any doubt that if the stock market is in a tailspin Felon Trump would declare an emergency and cancel elections. Be brazen. Declare this election is for democracy. Felon Tromp pardoned convicted cop beaters. Are you pro cop! Pro Law and Order! King Trump is cutting your Medicare and raising your food costs with tariffs. How many more lies that affect you and your family. Closing rural hospitals. Closing social security offices. Without congressional approval closing department of education. All these cuts that help you so there is some money for tax cuts for the super wealthy and only raise the deficit by $4 Billion. So much for being pro balance budget. Just another lie like climate change is a hoax. Know that mega bucks Musk supports Nazis. Dictator Don supports war criminal Putin over Ukraine. Are you pro Nazi pro Putin. Current congressional Republicans fail to defend the constitution against domestic enemy wannabe King Trump. I will vote to uphold the Constitution! I will vote to subpoena administration officials to testify before the House. The people of Florida here and now will decide. King Trump and spineless Republicans or a Democrat for democracy.
Agree with Teresa. I think Weil is trying to take a page out of the book written by Pennsylvania Governor, Josh Shapiro, who calls himself the “getting this” done candidate. I like Shapiro and it works for him. But, I don’t think the answer to Trump chaos and carnage is more of the same. Not sure it will work.
woops, Shapiro is the “get shit done” candidate.
