Credit Card Skimmers Found on Tampa ATMs

Credit card skimmers were found on Tampa ATMs at different 7-Eleven locations.

This month, Tampa Police responded to the 7-Eleven, located at 1930 N. Dale Mabry Hwy, after a maintenance worker discovered and reported a skimming device installed on an ATM. While investigating this incident, officers were notified of another credit card skimmer at a separate 7-Eleven, located at 2717 W. Hillsborough Ave.

As both Central Florida incidents are actively being investigated, local detectives encourage anyone who has used either of these ATMs recently to review your bank and/or credit card activity.

According to law enforcement, to help protect yourself from credit card skimming:

  • Regularly inspect ATMs before using them. Look for any signs of tampering, such as loose parts, misaligned card slots, or anything that appears to have been added or altered.
  • Shield your PIN by covering the keypad with your hand while entering your code.
  • Be wary of ATMs in unusual locations and avoid using ATMs in secluded or poorly lit areas.

To minimize the risk of becoming a victim of credit card skimming:

  • Monitor your bank and credit card accounts regularly.
  • Check your statements for any unauthorized charges.
  • Report any suspicious activity to your bank or credit card company immediately.
  • Update your PINs and passwords frequently.
  • Consider using a credit card with fraud protection.

If you have recently used either of these ATMs, and you believe you may have been a victim of credit card skimming, please call the Tampa Police Department at 813.231.6130 and refer to report number 25-14095.
