Construction Begins on New Independence Parkway Extension in Orange County

Construction began on the new Independence Parkway extension, a long-anticipated roadway project connecting Orange County and Lake County.

Orange County Public Works issued a Notice to Proceed for the New Independence Parkway extension project. Crews will construct roughly one mile of new roadway from the county line to approximately 400 feet east of County Road 545 (Avalon Road).

The extension will link U.S. 27 in Lake County to State Road 429 in Orange County.

“This highly anticipated roadway project represents a vital step forward in enhancing connectivity between Clermont and Horizon West providing west Orange County residents with safer, faster, and more efficient access to jobs, schools, and essential services while supporting smart growth for our thriving communities,” said Ken Leeming, manager of Orange County’s Highway Construction division.

The project will include two 11-foot-wide travel lanes in each direction separated by a raised grass median. The new four-lane road will have lighting, landscaping and a 10-foot multi-use path on each side of the road. Drainage upgrades are also included in the project.

Officials say it will improve connectivity between Clermont and Horizon West, provide safer, faster access to jobs, schools, and essential services, and support smart growth for local communities.

Construction should be completed by early 2027.
