In this harsh economy, people are looking in various directions to generate cash and also for good deals. And many are looking at consignment sales where good deals can be found. Reports around the U.S. suggest that the consignment trend is growing and sales are booming.
Single mothers too, find that consignment sales are especially helpful. According to Crystal McCuin, who told News 14, “Times like this, you need to come somewhere that can help you with some cheaper toys and educational toys, and some clothes”.
But the consigners also benefit, as well. Consigners are able to recover some of their investment, whether its on children’s equipment– play pens, strollers, and cribs– or clothes.
Even the well-healed are cashing in, too. Stories are told of Manhattan residents charging big ticket items, such as high end designer clothes and accessories, to credit cards and then selling their purchases to consignment shops, where returns could be as high as 40-50 percent of the purchase price.
Alas, it seems that the single mother and the socialite are in the same boat for a change, as the U.S. economy melts down.
