A man was indicted for the Central Florida road rage murder of a popular South Florida charter fishing captain who was visiting family in Sanford.
The 24-year-old Lake Mary man was indicted for murder for the August road rage shooting of the visiting fishing charter captain.
The Seminole County grand jury indicted Jaden A. Harris on one count of first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm, a capital felony, for the death of 43-year-old Joseph M. Hall, Jr.
Sanford Police investigators say Harris and Hall had a conflict in traffic while driving on Mangoustine Avenue. In the minutes that followed, Harris aggressively pursued Hall in a BMW coupe while Hall made several attempts to escape in his Jeep Gladiator, police said.
The two drivers ended up in the parking lot at the Vue at Lake Monroe Apartments on Marbella Lane. Witnesses said Paul got out of his car and approached Harris, where they exchanged words until Harris pulled a handgun and shot Hall in the face. Hall, who was unarmed, began to run away, but Harris climbed out of his car and chased after him, firing 10 more times, police said.
Hall was pronounced dead at HCA Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford.
Harris “had several opportunities to disengage from pursuing Joseph but maliciously continued instead,” an arrest report says. In an interview with police, Harris “never stated at the time of the incident he was ever in fear for his life.”
Harris’ arraignment is set for October 7th. He is being held without bond at the Seminole County jail.
Hall was the well-known captain of Sailors Choice Party Fishing Boat & Anglers Choice Sport Fishing out of Key Largo. The Miami Herald reported that tributes from loyal customers, crew and colleagues “have continued to pour into the Sailors Choice Facebook page since Hall’s death.”
