A Central Florida 27-year-old man was arrested for recording victims in a bathroom.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged a man from Riverview, near Tampa, for unlawfully recording people in a unisex restroom.
On June 30, 2023, HCSO received a call for service from the Verano Grow Facility in Hillsborough County reporting that a victim had discovered a cell phone hidden under the sink, which was video recording in the direction of the toilet.
Through investigative means, detectives found that the cell phone contained explicit videos of approximately 17 victims.
HCSO identified the cell phone owner as 27-year-old Christopher Scipio. After deputies seized the cell phone as evidence, Scipio attempted to report his cell phone stolen in an effort to erase its data.
A warrant was issued for Scipio, and he was taken into custody on February 1, 2024.
Scipio has been charged with the following:
- Video Voyeurism x31
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device.
More charges may be forthcoming and this is an open investigation, according to local law enforcement.
“This man’s actions are repulsive and disgraceful. We will not tolerate this invasion of privacy and exploitation in Hillsborough County,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I want to commend the victim who came forward, as her actions likely prevented others from becoming victims.
Detectives believe there could be additional victims of Scipio. If anyone has any information, please call 813-247-8200.
