If the U.S. prosecutor has his way, four-time Grammy nominated reggae artiste, Buju Banton, will face additional charges when he is retried next month in a Tampa Court.
Prosecutor James Preston, in an effort to increase the likelihood that Banton will be convicted, secured a new grand jury indictment late last year, listing three counts of cocaine-related charges, instead of one, against the singer. The single weapon charge remains.
David Markus, Banton’s lead defense attorney, has said it is not permissible for new charges to be brought on old information and is fighting the new indictment.
