Jamaican reggae superstar Buju Banton has got his wish to spend Christmas with his family. On Wednesday, after weeks of his legal team trying to make all the arrangements for him to take up a bail offer, he walked out of the Pinellas County Jail, unshackled and free, to await retrial on drug charges.
Buju, whose real name is Mark Myrie, had to sign an extradition waiver to ensure he is returned to the US if he leaves the country and he will also be under guard at his residence in Florida.
Banton, who had been behind bars in a Tampa, Florida, was granted bail after a mistrial was declared by U.S. District Court Judge James Moody, when jurors on two occasions failed to reach a verdict in his cocaine trail in September.
A new trial has been set for February 2011.
