The Center for Multicultural Wellness and Prevention, Inc. in collaboration with several local Mount Dora businesses will stage the First Annual “Finding Dora Drawdy” Fundraiser on April 27, 2013 at the Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora. The Fundraiser will start at 10:30am and end with a fashion show at the Lakeside Inn at 12:30pm.
The “Finding Dora Drawdy” Fundraiser is the first of its kind event that will highlight one of Mount Dora legends, Dora Ann Drawdy. Local stores in the historic town of Mount Dora will depict their own rendition of Dora Ann Drawdy; a local, whose name was chosen for lake Dora and later the town of Mount Dora. Visitors will also get to see and hear about the fascinating history of Mount Dora, Florida, where eight major annual events, including the Mount Dora Arts Festival, an antique car show, an antique boat show, sailing regatta, golf tournament, bicycle festival, crafts fair and the annual Christmas lighting festivals draw thousands of visitors to the town each year.
There will be twelve (12) participating stores that will showcase a model of their rendition of Dora Drawdy. Each participating store will encourage visitors during the tour of shops to vote for their presentation. The winning store will receive a prize that will be presented during the Fashion show at the Lakeside Inn.
The main purpose of the “Finding Dora Drawdy” Fundraiser is to provide funding to many women over the age of 40 who cannot afford a mammogram screening. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States. Black women are more likely to die of breast cancer than other women. Black women have the highest death rates of all racial and ethnic groups. Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer. A mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast. Black and white women get mammograms at about the same rate. But more black women have breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast compared with white women when the cancer is found.
The Center for Multicultural Wellness and Prevention, Inc. (CMWP) will provide access to free health screenings, information and educational with an emphasis on enhancing the health, wellness and quality of life at its annual Health Summit that will take place on Saturday, September, 7th, 2013. Free mammogram screenings will be provided to women who are uninsured and underinsured on Friday, September 6th and on Saturday, September 7th. Through these screenings many abnormal results have been detected and many lives have been saved over the years.
