Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will join Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) Jo-Ellen Darcy, Everglades National Park Superintendent Dan Kimball, Chairman of the Board of the South Florida National Parks Trust Neal McAliley, and other local officials to celebrate the completion and the grand opening of a one-mile bridge over the Tamiami Trail. The bridge is the largest construction project in the history of the National Park Service and the last structural component of the Modified Water Deliveries (MWD) project to restore natural water flows to the Everglades.
Following the ceremony, Salazar will hold a brief media availability and will lead ceremony participants in an inaugural crossing of the bridge. This will be the Secretary’s 11th trip to Florida as part of the Administration’s commitment to restoring the Everglades.
