Magic Trade Guard J.J. Redick away to Milwaukee Bucks

In a somewhat surprising move, the Magic traded guard J.J. Redick to the Milwaukee Bucks for Tobias Harris, Doran Lamb and Beno Udrih.

Yeah, I’m not to familiar with those players either.

In addition to sending Redick away, the Magic also traded forward Josh McRoberts to the Charlotte Bobcats for forward Hakim Warrick.

As reported by West Orlando News last night, talks between the Bucks and the Magic were all but dead according to Lance Allan of NBC Milwaukee. The Magic wanted a first round draft pick in exchange for Redick, and the Bucks weren’t willing to go that far.

With this trade, the Magic weren’t secure in believing that they could re-sign the former Duke guard this offseason. Plus, I’m not sure that the team was willing to give Redick almost $10 million per season just for him to stick around.

But Redick was a fan favorite. He developed nicely into an all-around player while in Orlando. He had a healthy relationship with the media and was cheered ferociously by the home crowd whenever he entered a game.

Fans upset by this move should keep their trust in general manager Rob Hennigan. He is attempting to rebuild the franchise and acquiring young players is a pretty good place to start.

“Tobias (Harris) and Doron (Lamb) are two young players who complement our current roster and have tremendous potential to grow with us,” Hennigan said via a press release by the team. “Beno (Udrih) is a proven point guard who adds veteran leadership and experience to our team.”

Hennigan is scheduled to meet with the media as this article went to publish.
