Arthur Jackson Midnight Basketball of Florida will celebrate its 18th Anniversary Luncheon and Silent Auction on Wednesday August 19, 2009 at 11:30am in The Ballroom at Church Street, 225 South Garland Avenue, Orlando, Florida. Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings will be the keynote speaker.
The event celebrates the many achievements of Midnight Basketball and its staff, its outstanding participants and the various partners and sponsors that help make the program a success. The luncheon will also include a silent auction to support Midnight Basketball’s effort to provide Central Florida children and families with the tools to lead healthy, responsible lifestyles through sports and recreation! All proceeds benefit The Center’s Midnight Basketball Program and its fight against substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, HIV/AIDS and other behavioral health related concerns.

Arthur Jackson Midnight Basketball of Florida is a Prevention Program that was started in 1991. The program was designed by The Center For Drug-Free Living, Inc. and the City of Orlando to provide youth with positive, alternative late night activities. Midnight Basketball works to strengthen relations between law enforcement and local youth, improve self-esteem, enhance interpersonal skills and provide youth with mentors who will have a positive role in their lives. Midnight Basketball has grown from four (4) sites in 1991 to fifteen (15) sites in three counties across Central Florida. More than 1500 participants receive educational and drug prevention presentations on a weekly basis. The program offers seasonal tournaments, a high school summer league, basketball camps, a Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) sanctioned Midnight Basketball Invitational and regular Friday and Saturday night games year-round.
The Center For Drug-Free Living, Inc. is a comprehensive, behavioral health, service organization. Its mission is to “Promote Healthy Responsible Lifestyles.” The Center has been serving Central Florida for more than 37 years, providing prevention, intervention and treatment to individuals and families coping with substance use and mental health disorders, juvenile delinquency, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other behavioral health issues.
