On August 5th 2009, the Tavares Police Department arrested Deputy Sheriff Steven Smith on domestic assault charges. Deputy Smith is currently assigned to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit. He was hired on 12/11/00.
At this time Deputy Smith has been relieved from duty with pay. Once released from the jail he will be assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigation.
