Students from the local HBI PACT for Veterans program are giving back to the Orlando community by participating in the Beautify Eatonville Police Department hosted by Rebuilding Together Orlando and Honeywell on January 18.

During the event, HBI PACT for Veterans students will provide guidance to Honeywell volunteers as they assemble the pre-made benches and chair, which are to be placed outside the Eatonville Police Department. The HBI PACT for Veterans students have constructed two picnic benches, a planter bench and an Adirondack chair prior to the event using materials provided by Rebuilding Together Orlando.

“Civic engagement is an important part of all HBI programs, and it provides our students with a valuable opportunity to apply the techniques they learn in the classroom to a real-life setting,” said Rosa Cannaverde, program manager for HBI PACT for Veterans. “Volunteer opportunities like this help make a difference to the local community and we are thrilled to put our skills to the test and lend a helping hand.”

HBI PACT for Veterans provides Florida Veterans with training and placement in the home building trades. In partnership with Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity, HBI PACT for Veterans with sites in Tampa, Jacksonville and Orlando – is open to all veterans who are residents of Florida. Veterans who participate in this free HBI program will receive training in all facets of general construction and facilities maintenance, including carpentry, electrical wiring, landscaping, masonry, painting, plumbing, HVAC and weatherization. Graduate of the program are certified as pre-apprentices and receive job placement assistance in the state’s home building, remodeling and light commercial construction sectors.
