Driver Involved in Two Crashes, Killed in Second on County Road 42

The driver of a Mazda was killed on County Road 42, early on Saturday, after being involved in an earlier crash, Florida Highway Patrol said.

44-year-old Arlie L. Powers, of Paisley, was killed early Saturday, after his car was hit by a 1996 Chevy, driven by 37-year-old William P. Rodak, also of Paisley, Florida.

Powers’ 2002 Mazda was disabled in the westbound lane facing eastbound due to the earlier crash, when it was struck by Rodak.  It is not clear whether any lights were on at the time of the second crash.

Powers was pronounced dead on the spot, troopers said.

Rodak, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to Florida Deland Hospital, troopers also said.

The crash happened in Lake County, 1.3 miles west of State Road 44 of Eustis, around 2:20 a.m.

Toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash, Florida Highway Patrol said.  Charges could be filed, pending the outcome of the investigation, according to troopers.
