Dems Should be Worried: Romney Leads Obama in Florida

Mitt Romney leads President Obama by 6 percentage points in Florida, according to a poll released last week. The Quinnipiac University poll shows Mr. Romney leading the president 47% to 41% among registered voters. In early May, the Quinnipiac University poll showed the president and Romney virtually tied, and now Romney is ahead.

There are many experts that don’t believe the survey and poll, but nevertheless the poll indicates that the president is in a close fight, and this election is going to be different from the first election. Many citizens in the country are angry with the state of the economy, and they are placing the blame on the president.

“I think the reason you’re seeing across the country people saying they’d like to try someone new is because they believe this president, while he may be a nice guy, he is simply not up to the task of guiding our economy,” explains Mr. Romney. There are many people on the other side that would argue with Romney, but there are millions that would agree with him.

Romney has declared that his campaign will focus on the president’s record and not about how he made his money. “The president spends his time blaming other people for the fact he has been unsuccessful in turning around this economy. Are people happy about the gas prices, the house prices, or are they happy with all the foreclosures,” says Romney?

In this survey the voters are asked whether they view the candidates favorably or unfavorably. This Quinnipiac University poll viewed Romney Favorably 44%-35%, while President Obama gets a negative 45%-50% favorability.

Many experts feel that one reason for the shift could be the president’s recent vocal support of same-sex marriage. According to the poll, 25% of voters said his support made them less likely to vote for him. “While the issue of same-sex marriage looks like it affects only one-third of Florida voters, we know from experience what a few votes can mean in the Sunshine State,” said Peter Brown, assistant vice-president of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

The other issue with President Obama is “How will his support for gay marriage affect the Black voters in the 2012 election? The Pew Research Center poll in April 25, 2012 shows that Blacks opposition to gay marriage has dropped to 49%, down from 66% in 1996. It is a strong possibility that the president will lose only a small percentage of Black voters, because of his support of gay marriage.

In 2009, the Pew Research Center reported that the electorate in the 2008 presidential election was the most racially and ethnically diverse in the U.S. history. Nearly one in four votes was cast by non-whites; still there were 75% of the voters who were white. President Obama is a politician and wants the voters to understand that there are distinct differences between himself and Mr. Romney and the Republicans.

Florida is a swing state and it would be a plus if the president is able to win the state of Florida in the election. There are more registered Democrats in the state, as compared to Republicans. For Romney to convey that the economy has not improved under the president is just false.

It is important that the American people understand that Romney made his millions by being a corporate raider, and he will help the Republicans pillage America. It has not been an easy road for the president, but the economy is improving and America is moving forward. It makes no sense that the president is losing in Florida, and that means that all the Democrats need to work harder.
