Senior goal tender Craig Jackson finished with a school-record 29 saves and kept host University at bay long enough for Men’s Lacrosse to come back for a 12-7 victory. Down 2-0, DP battled back to tie the game at 5-5 by half time and scored the lone third quarter goal to go up by one before pulling away in the fourth. Freshman Ian Decker sparked the Panthers (10-2) with a pair of fourth quarter goals during penalty time while Brett Forward led the offense with four goals and an assist. Dexter Wiley finished with two goals and two assists, Doug Essig scored twice and assisted on a third, Lucas Casas and Ryan Totten picked up a goal and an assist each and Austin Crocker and Jordan DeJager recorded assists. Craig Jackson eclipsed the school record for saves (28) which was originally set by Craig Day vs. First Academy in 2010. In JV Lacrosse action, Jake Gillen scored four goals and assisted on two more scores in DP’s 13-1 victory over University. Steven Weatherford scored three times and picked up two assists with Mac Baxter and JT McCumber scoring twice.
Women’s Lacrosse improved to 10-2 on the season with a 19-7 victory over visiting East Ridge. Ravene Moore scored three goals and assisted on another and Cymber Larkin picked up three goals as well.
Men’s Water Polo utilized nearly every weapon available in an 18-3 thrashing of visting Apopka. Ryan Staton’s four goals led an assault of 12 different scorers and the DP goalkeeping team of Collin Brandt, Nick Lachinski and Ryan Messinger totaled 18 saves as the Panthers moved their record to 15-1 on the season. DP jumped on the Blue Darters with nine goals in the first quarter. It took all of 19 seconds for the Panthers to light up the scoreboard as Jack Orchard took a pass from Staton and blasted it into the left corner for a 1-0 lead. Staton picked up the next two scores, a turnaround shot off a Charlie Barnett feed and a perfect fall away into the left corner from an Evan Staton assist for a 3-0 lead at the 4:19 mark. Evan Staton followed up with the first of his two scores, driving in from the right and pushing in the fourth unanswered goal. After Ryan Staton found the lower left corner at 3:05, Evan Staton capitailzed on a Reed Davis steal and an assist from Ryan Staton for a one-timer into the left corner that pushed the lead to 6-0. Just 35 seconds later it was Ryan Staton again with his fourth goal, a laser that caromed off the back bar for a 7-0 lead. Jack Orchard picked up his second goal on a backhander into the left corner and Charlie Barnett took a cross from Ryan Staton and deposited it into the upper left corner to close out the quarter with a 9-0 lead. Nate Hamner opened the scoring just over two minutes into the second period off an assist by Anshul Devnani, the first of three consecutive assists by the freshman. Ian Perkins capped a DP power play with a bar-in goal at 2:48 and Ian Supra’s fall away sidearm goal brought DP to 12-0. Anshul Devnani got a chance to put his name on the board at the 1:35 mark. From the point, Nate Hamner lofted a perfect pass to Devnani, who drove in from the left, stretched high for the one-timer and buried it into the left corner to make it 13-0. Ian Supra closed out the half with a rocket from the point into the right side of the cage and DP went into the break with a two touchdown lead. In the third quarter, senior Ed Baker’s bar-in goal was the Panthers’ lone score in the period but in the fourth, Avery Ford hit from the point and Austin Sellers slapped in a rebound with 4:12 to go for a 17-0 lead. Apopka added three goals in the last two minutes but freshman Stephen Welch ended the night with a goal at the buzzer for the 18-3 final. Collin Brandt notched five saves in the first quarter, sophomore Nick Lachinski totaled seven saves in the middle periods and freshman Ryan Messinger closed out the fourth with six saves in the cage.
Sophomore Allie Magrino scored five goals and Women’s Water Polo put nine in the cage in the first quarter alone in an 18-1 demolition of visiting Apopka. After a lackluster performance a night earlier, DP (11-5) showed its true capability from start to finish as nine different players found the back of the net and three goaltenders combined for ten saves for a complete victory. Senior Rachel Dytrych wasted little time getting the Panthers on target with a five meter penalty shot into the right corner just 81 seconds into the match. Just over a minute later, freshman Jacqueline James fought for two rebounds off her own shots and burying her third attempt into the left corner for a 2-0 lead. With 4:43 to go in the first, Shannon MacNeil scored the first of her two goals off an Allie Magrino assist and Magrino followed suit with consecutive goals of her own; the first into the right corner off an assist from James and the second into the opposite corner from Heather MacNeil. Up 5-0, Shannon MacNeil found herself wide open on the left corner and the senior took care of business for her second goal at 2:57. Heather MacNeil pushed a goal into the right corner off a Magrino assist to up the lead to 7-0 and then assisted on Rachel Dytrych’s goal from the point with 57 seconds left in the quarter. With 23 seconds to go, Jacqueline James drove in from the right side and punched in her second score for a 9-0 lead as the quarter came to a merciful ending for the Blue Darters. In the second period Freshman Rikki Price went cross cage for a power play goal at 4:59 and freshman Jillian Goulden tapped consecutive goals with a turnaround blast into the upper right corner and a ricochet off the right post with 30 seconds left. With a 12-1 lead heading into the third quarter, Allie Magrino notched a pure hat trick with three consecutive goals in one period to extend the lead to 15-1. Freshman Emily Kliewer hustled for a loose ball in front of the goal and pushed it in for the first score of the fourth quarter while freshman Maddie Cicineo picked up her first career goal off a rebound she punched back in with 1:31 to play. Rikki Price closed out the barrage with a dart into the right side of the net off another assist from Jacqueline James. Goaltending was superb with senior Mary Campbell, junior Marissa Goodrum and freshman Jessica Robinson seeing significant action.
Women’s Water Polo senior Mary Campbell verbally committed to Indiana University Friday morning and will sign with the Hoosiers officially at Wednesday’s National Signing Day ceremony. The following DP seniors will be honored at the signing table at 10:30 am in front of the Media Center:
