Former congressman and current congressional candidate Alan Grayson (D-Orlando) announced today that his campaign will post a 1st quarter fundraising number north of $550,000. The overwhelming support came from nearly 12,000 contributors, who gave an average contribution of about $46.
“There’s a reason I have been labeled a ‘virtual slam dunk’ by media around the country. We are doing something special. Our campaign model shows that you can raise money and win elections without having to sell out to special interests or the lobbyists,” Grayson said.
Grayson’s 1st quarter total is 20 times more than all the other declared candidates in his race have raised so far COMBINED, according to the most recent quarterly fundraising numbers on the Federal Election Commission website. It follows a staggering $597,000 4th quarter of 2011. All told, Grayson for Congress has raised nearly $2 million in this election cycle already.
In addition to his impressive 1st quarter haul, Grayson lived up to his commitment as a “Majority Maker” for the Democratic Party. The Party has asked Grayson to raise funds for fellow candidates. Grayson has responded by bringing in more than $300,000.
Here is a partial list of Grayson’s Majority Maker fundraising efforts for other Democratic candidates:
- Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) $179,991
- Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.) $10,192
- Ilya Sheyman (D-Ill.) $9,757
- Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) $2,439
Grayson also raised more than $100,000 for the Democratic Party.
Grayson is running for a new U.S. House of Representatives district that is expected to represent parts of Orange, Osceola and Polk counties. He is the only Democratic candidate for that seat.
