After finishing the 2011-2012 season undefeated in the state and notching their second consecutive State Championship, Dr. Phillips Women’s Basketball claims two of the most coveted individual achievement awards. Sophomore guard Taryn Griffey was named the 2012 Florida Dairy Farmers’ Class 8A State Player of the Year and head coach Anthony Jones earned the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Class 8A Coach of the Year award for the second consecutive year. Griffey, who was runner-up for the same honor as a freshman, led the Panthers to a 29-3 record and was sensational in the State Final Four with 22 points and 16 rebounds vs. University and 17 points and 16 rebounds in the title game blowout of Dr. Krop. Already courted by many of the top college basketball powers in the nation, Taryn Griffey is currently ranked as the # 12 point guard in the class of 2014 by ESPNHS after averaging 16.4 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game. Remarkably, she becomes the third Panther to earn the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Player of the Year award this year, joining Nick Patti (Football) and Bridget Blake (Women’s Cross Country). Taryn is also a finalist for, among others, the 2012 Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida.

Coach Anthony Jones has earned his second consecutive Florida Dairy Farmers’ Coach of the Year award. Jones has amassed a record of 93-7 over the last three years with back-to-back State Championships and three straight trips to the Final Four. In 2011, he was named the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Coach of the Year in both Women’s Basketball and Flag Football along with the Central Florida Coach of the Year Awards by both the Orlando Sentinel and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
