City, Goodwill Join Forces to Aid Job-Seekers

On Wednesday, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and William Oakley, CEO and President of Goodwill Industries of Central Florida, will officially launch a new public-public partnership between the City of Orlando and Goodwill Industries of Central Florida, aimed at helping job seekers.

Goodwill will be providing ‘employability’ skills training and access to a network of critical social services to BLUEPRINT Employment Office registrants. Workers registered with the BLUEPRINT Employment Office will be able to receive free information and referral services from Goodwill to help them resolve personal and lifestyle issues.

Dyer and Oakley will also announce the “Mayor’s Clothesline: The Right Fit” which is a month-long clothes drive from donations. Clothing collected from the drive will help Goodwill fill its retail store, and then the proceeds from the store will help Goodwill provide its services to the local job seekers.

While at Goodwill, Dyer will join Goodwill staff on the processing line inspecting incoming donations of gently used items. He will survey clothing articles for rips, stains, missing buttons and outdated styles. If he feels the items meet the inspection criteria, he will hang clothing for distribution to any one of the 25 Goodwill stores throughout Central Florida.

Goodwill receives millions of pounds of donated materials each year.
