St. Cloud Cop Whips Boyfriend, Resists Arrest

A cop with the St. Cloud Police Department was arrested on Sunday, accused of beating her live-in boyfriend and kicking a police officer.

Ruth Tavarez, 35, who worked for four-years as a police officer with the department is alleged to have battered her live-in boyfriend last Sunday.

Police were called to Tavarez’s residence in reference to a disturbance call where upon investigating, found her live-in boyfriend had been beaten. Tavarez’s boyfriend suffered minor injuries as a result.

Investigators say, when they tried to arrest Tavarez for battery she resisted and kicked one of the officers in the upper thigh.

Tavarez was placed in custody and transported to the Osceola County Jail. She has been charged with battery, resisting an officer with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. Bond was set at $2,250 and Tavarez was released from jail.

Tavarez was fired from the police department on Monday on an unrelated issue.
