A hit and run suspect who crashed his vehicle into an undercover Orange County Deputy’s unmarked car, then engaged the law enforcement officer in a physical fight, is now behind bars.
Miranda G. Manuel, 26, was arrested on Tuesday just before 6:00 p.m., at 14551 Avalon Reserve Boulevard and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude, aggravated assault and escape.
Deputies said, Manuel was earlier involved in a hit and run accident when he was spotted at the intersection of Sophie Avenue and East Colonial Drive.
The undercover deputy, who followed Manuel, caught up with him in a parking lot at Bridgewater and East Colonial Drive.
Manuel assaulted the undercover deputy, rammed the undercover Deputy’s car and fled the scene.
The undercover deputy again, pursued the suspect who crashed his vehicle into the marquee for the Avalon Reserve Apartment Complex and attempted to flee the crash scene. The deputy confronted Manuel and the two became involved in a physical fight.
The undercover deputy received assistance from two passers-by who helped him to subdue the suspect.
Manuel was taken into custody and booked into the Orange County Jail.
FHP is investigating the traffic crashes.
