The Office of Business Opportunity (OBO) will host the OCPS 6th Annual Minority-and Women-owned Business Enterprises and Local Developing Businesses (MWBEs/LDBs) Trade Fair on Friday, March 25th at Jones High School.
The annual event offers a forum for attendees to meet and network with contractors and others firms that are bidding on and/or working on OCPS projects as construction managers, architects, and engineers. Local minority/small business support organizations, such as the African American and Asian Chambers, Black Business Investment (BBIF) and Hispanic Initiative (HBIF) funds, Small Business Alliance and the Florida Minority Supplier Development Council (FMSDC) will exhibit at the event to provide current information about their programs and availability to assist and support minority and small businesses.
During the event, representatives from Willis Insurance of Florida, the P. A. Wallace company, Florida Minority Supplier Development Council (FMSDC) and district staff from the Contract Administration and Procurement Services department will present mini workshops on the district’s owner insurance program, bonding, benefits of certification, procurement policies and procedures and the Jessica Lunsford Act.
Orange County Public Schools has one of the most successful and aggressive school construction programs in the country. “More than $250 million of school constructions projects are scheduled to be completed in 2010 through 2013, the district estimates the budget for new, replacement, and comprehensive construction to be nearly $1 billion,” according to the district’s Public Relations department.
