Teacher Merit Pay Bill Passes Florida Legislature

A bill that ties teacher pay to learning gains of their students as measured by tests, instead of to tenure passed the Florida Legislature on Wednesday.  It is the first bill this year which will be sent to Gov. Rick Scott.

The bill (SB 736) passed the House 80-39, along party lines with Republicans in favor.  It had sailed through the Senate earlier.

Scott has indicated he will sign the measure.
