Shooting Victim Doesn’t Want to Press Charges

A Hispanic man was shot early this morning on Orange County’s Eastside, but he does not wish to press charges if a suspect is located in the shooting.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies say, Pedro Garcia, 38, was found sitting in the back seat of a Toyota vehicle around 2:00 a.m. on Friday morning, with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The vehicle was parked close to the intersection of Curry Ford Road and Econolockhatchee Trail.

Garcia told investigators that he was standing outside of the Toyota when another car drove by and someone inside shot him.  He provided no other information to investigators. An unnamed witness who was with Garcia at the time, was unable or refused to provide details related to the incident.

Investigators say, Garcia told them he does now wish to press charges, if a suspect is identified in his shooting.  He was uncooperative during investigators’ attempts to interview him and their were inconsistencies in his account of the shooting, deputies say.

Garcia was transported to ORMC for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies are unclear as to whether or not the shooting is gang related and if the shooter is known to Garcia.

The investigation is ongoing.
