Troopers are investigating a fatal crash on the I-95, one mile north of LPGA Boulevard in Volusia County on Monday night.
FHP said that a 2004 Saturn driven by Cylle R. Stone, 25, of Bunnell, and a 2010 Ford driven by James H. Morten II, 43, of Galesburg, Illinois were traveling southbound on the I-95 in the left through lane.
Morten told troopers that he saw the Saturn from behind coming quickly and he attempted to move to the right. As he did so, the Saturn followed and he moved back to the left lane. Again, the Saturn followed him, Morten told troopers. The front of the Saturn then struck the rear of the Ford, forcing it to the left onto the median striking a guard rail. After traveling 130 feet, the Ford came to rest in an easterly direction.
The Saturn, driven by Stone, traveled to the right across all southbound and off onto the west shoulder of the roadway. The car struck a large support pole to an overhead information sign. Stone died on the spot.
Harley D. Templeman, 26, of Holly Hill, a passenger in the Saturn, was taken to Halifax Medical Center with critical injuries.
Morton II, suffered minor injuries.
FHP is continuing with their investigation.
