The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said today that the Charging Affidavit of Lakeland police officer Rawn Haynes, who while off duty left his firearm in a vehicle and which resulted in the accidental shooting of a 10-year-old boy in the hand, has been submitted to the State Attorney’s Office.
Officer Haynes, also a football coach, on September 16th, left Chauncey Cleckley, 10, and his younger brother, Mckell Cleckley, 7, briefly in his vehicle as he went into his parent’s home on 1009 west Kaley Street, Orlando.
While Officer Haynes was inside the home, Mckell told investigators that Chauncey pointed out Haynes’ firearm in the front of the vehicle to him and he (Mckell) took the gun out of the bag and began clicking it, believing that it wasn’t loaded. Mckell accidentally shot Chauncey in the hand.
Chauncey was transported to the Arnold Palmer Hospital and was treated with a non-life threatening wound.
Since the incident, the accident has been under investigation.

According to Florida State Statue, storing or leaving a loaded firearm within the reach or easy access of a minor, if the minor obtains the firearm and uses it to inflict injury or death upon himself or herself or any other person, is a third degree felony.
The State Attorney’s Office will review the Charging Affidavit of Officer Haynes with the view to determining whether or not there was negligence on the officer’s part.
