Right now, the possibilities of stem cells to cure disease are being explored in Southwest Florida.
Bonita Springs is home to one of the only stem cell therapy programs for patients in the entire world.
Cardiologist Dr. Zannos Grekos uses patient’s own adult stem cells to treat a variety of ailments, including heart, pulmonary and kidney disease.
Patients are saying the treatments have saved their lives, and now our community is taking notice. People are flocking by the hundreds to free seminars to learn more about the process.
Howard Lindeman addressed the crowd gathered at a seminar in Naples. He was facing a quadruple bypass to fix his heart, until he underwent stem cell therapy. “I’m going to be 58-years-old in may and I’m on my way to be 35 again, and that’s not science fiction,” Lindeman explained.
“Stem cells are the repair cells our bodies have naturally,” said Dr. Grekos. “These are cells that go around and when they see a damaged organ or tissue they actually start to repair it or regenerate it.”
Dr. Grekos treats patients with their own adult stem cells, which are extracted from their own blood and multiplied. The stem cells are then injected into the heart through a catheter.
Because adult stem cell treatment has not yet been approved by the FDA to be done in the United States, Dr. Greckos’ patient must fly to the Dominican Republic to be treated.
