Lancaster Elementary School computer lab paraprofessional, Christine Guhl, was named one of five state finalists for the 2010 Florida District School-Related Employee of the Year. Guhl was named Orange County’s 2010 Support Person of the Year in January.
Guhl has worked for the district for 12 years. The programs she has organized for Lancaster are many, including “Compassion to Action” and “Mighty Mentors”, along with the “Character Cash” reward system. She also developed 10 service-learning projects which continue year to year. One service-learning project promotes global peace and harmony through a partnership with students in China. As the computer lab paraprofessional, she has also helped improve reading gains for students and she wrote a grant that awarded the school a $37,000 playground for the students.
The Florida Support Person of the Year Program honors outstanding support personnel for contributions to their schools and districts. Nominees demonstrate exceptional skill and dedication in the performance of their jobs, thereby earning them the respect and admiration of students, teachers, administrators, coworkers, and parents. The 2010 winner will be announced next week.
