Hillsborough County’s High Visibility Enforcement Contract Makes Roadways Safer

In its continuous effort to make Hillsborough County roadways safer, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is conducting High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) details.




Hillsborough County ranks in the top 26 counties in Florida for traffic crashes resulting in serious and fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists.

The following locations are part of the HVE operation:

• Hillsborough Avenue, from Kelly Road to Sunforest Drive
• E Fletcher Avenue, from I-275 to N Nebraska Avenue
• Hillsborough Avenue, from Theresa Road to Halifax Drive
• E Fletcher Avenue, from Cecelia Avenue to Revere Landings Drive
• Gibsonton Road, from Massachusetts Street to Gloria Street
• Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., from Williams Road to S. Kingsway Road
• Brandon Boulevard, from N Kings Avenue to S Valrico Road
• US Highway 41, from Ohio Street to Gibsonton Drive
• Orient Road, from Thrasher Drive to Zelmis Drive
• W Waters Avenue, from Anderson Road to Florida Mining Boulevard
• Dale Mabry Highway, from 300-ft south of Hamilton Avenue (Econo Auto Painting & Body Work entrance-7020 N Dale Mabry Hwy.) to 300-ft north of Hamilton Avenue (Gonzalez Funeral Home entrance-7209 N Dale Mabry Hwy.)
• Adamo Drive, from West of Brandon Town Center Drive to S Lakewood Drive
• US Highway 41, from College Avenue E to 4^th Avenue NW
• N US 301, from Sabal Industrial Road to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

On September 21, 2023, HCSO launched the HVE Operation which is funded through a contract with the University of North Florida in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation. The Central Florida operation will run through May 10, 2024.

Since launching the operation on September 21, 2023, HCSO has dedicated more than 780 hours to HVE with the primary objective of educating the public.

As of January 8, 2023, deputies have interacted with 1,628 pedestrians, 603 bicyclists, and 2127 motorists providing educational materials on pedestrian safety.  Additionally, 93 motorists were issued citations and warnings have been issued to 432 pedestrians, 106 bicyclists, and 1,000 motorists.
